Plein Air Art Show & Sale
To benefit Historic Sugartown
July 1st – October 1st, 2017

(Malvern, PA) Historic Sugartown has partnered with The Philadelphia Watercolor Society to host a Plein Air Art Show & Sale that will run from July 1st through October 1st. The Art Show & Sale will showcase the artistic work of Philadelphia Watercolor Society members in the Historic Sugartown’s c. 1805 William Garrett House. Art Sale proceeds will raise funds for the continued preservation of the village of Sugartown.

On May 25, June 9-10, June 23-24th, and July 27-29, Historic Sugartown will offer free “Plein Air Days” featuring artists from the Philadelphia Watercolor Society who will be painting on the village’s grounds. Visitors will have the unique opportunity to meet the artists and watch their painting process close up. To paint “En Plein Air” is to paint in the open air or outdoors. As visitors will see, outdoor painting adds different dimensions in terms of color, shadows and especially time.

The show will begin with a free opening weekend on Saturday, July 1st from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm and Sunday, July 2nd from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The show will continue to be on view during Historic Sugartown’s regular weekend tours and by appointment through October 1st. Sale proceeds will support the continued preservation of Historic Sugartown.

Directions: Historic Sugartown is located at 690 Sugartown Road, at the corners of Spring and Boot Roads in Malvern. By GPS, enter 273 Boot Road, Malvern, PA, to bring you directly to our Visitor Parking. The Art Show will take place at Historic Sugartown’s c. 1805 William Garrett House at 260 Spring Road.

The Philadelphia Water Color Society was founded in 1900 to offset the then common exhibition prejudice against watercolor. Chartered in 1922 as a corporation, it continued its mission of furthering watercolor art through varied exhibitions of elected members’ work.

The Society’s annual exhibitions continue to present the finest in watercolor as well as other works on paper. Over the years, those exhibitions have evolved into open and international events. Today over 500 international artists working in a broad variety of media on paper comprise the Philadelphia Water Color Society membership. The Society takes great pleasure in continuing our rich artistic heritage and welcomes you to join the tradition.

Historic Sugartown, Inc. inspires the community to engage with the past through authentic 19th-century experiences, participate in the village’s present life and protect it for the future. Historic Sugartown stewards 9.2 acres of land and nine historic structures, including 4.2 acres of open space under conservation easement with Willistown Conservation Trust. Historic Sugartown’s Carriage Museum interprets Chester County’s rich transportation heritage through a rare collection of historic carriages and sleighs in partnership with Chester County Historical Society. Historic Sugartown is open for guided tours on Saturdays, 11 am – 4 pm and Sundays, 1 – 4 pm from May through November. Tour admission: $7 Adults and $5 Children (3 – 17 yrs). Children ages 2 and younger admitted free. For weekend tours, enter 273 Boot Road, Malvern, PA, into your GPS to bring you directly to Historic Sugartown’s visitor parking.
